"Cineplex website worst part of movie experience."
They charge 1.50 extra to book online, unless you get a scene card. Sign up for a scene card and "invalid number" is the cineplex response. It's impossible to access help for the site. They demand totally up to date browsers, and 2FA for a movie purchase... it's movies, not financial services. If movie theaters die in Canada, Cineplex website will be one of the main reasons.

"The booking fee was the last straw"
I am a Scene+ member through Scotiabank Visa and an avid movie watcher and theater-goer. I've always gone to Cineplex because their seats are comfortable, screens are big and their theater is just a 5 minute drive from my house. Plus Scene points.

A few weeks ago, I logged onto the Cineplex site for the first time since Christmas to buy a ticket to watch the new John Wick movie. To start, I was badgered into setting up 2FA on my account, which seems absurd since there is no sensitive information shared on it. It's a movie website, not a financial one. It irritated me quite a bit, but I wanted those tickets and I had lots of Scene+ points to spend so I signed up for it. Then I noticed they had increased their ticket prices, from $13 and change a year ago to over $18. That irritated me quite a bit more, but I still wanted to go watch that movie, so I plugged in my information and scrolled to the bottom of the page, where I was greeted by AN ONLINE BOOKING FEE.

I immediately deleted my Cineplex account, closed the tab, navigated to Landmark Cinema home page, and bought a movie ticket from them instead - for less money and NO BOOKING FEE. I'm glad I did too; the seats are actually even more comfortable at Landmark than they are at Cineplex, and the theater is less crowded. The drive might be longer, but I don't feel like I'm getting screwed, so for me it's worth it.

I will never darken the door of a Cineplex again. Abuse your customer and they will leave you.

As for all those Scene+ points, I will spend them on groceries instead, and when they're gone, I'll cancel the Visa.

"I enjoy going to a movie once in a…"
I enjoy going to a movie once in a while since I was a child. It's usually been one of these locations.
My only thing is I think more seating space would be comfortable.

If this was a review on food then it would be 1 star though.... Rip off, even knowing obviously they gouge price at the movies. $20 for a popcorn and pop is redic considering it costs them maybe 20 cents in reality.
But I always bring my own food since I was a child because I know this. Sad because if a bag of popcorn was only $5 I'd buy it still.
Soo I'll go in with my huge sushi combos, Harvey's, burritos, own popcorn etc 🤷🏻

"Online Video Rental HD is in 720p! COME ON!"
This review is the their online video rental service. At first, I was really happy that their selection of rental movies is great. I'm happy to pay for a movie if it's available on a platform. We rented the new (2023) Gerard Butler movie Plane for their "HD" version, which was 720p! What the heck?!?! This is a brand new movie, and you didn't give me any option besides "SD" and "HD." No one actually believes that 720p counts as HD in a world of 4K TVs. Please don't be so dishonest.

Time to go back to acquiring movies that are actually the quality they advertise.

"The ads and coming attractions are now 30 minutes in lengthe"
Went to the Park Theatre in Vancouver last night. we arrived 15 minutes after the scheduled start time, so as to miss the ads and trailers shown at about 150 decibels. Surprise, Cineplex now shows a 30 minute "Pre-show" which is a bunch of ads, and three to four different (but not always!) trailers of the same movies that are 'coming soon'. If they hope to keep me as a customer, they better disclose the showing of these Pre-shows, or I will wait to stream them.

"The theater was very clean and the…"
The theater was very clean and the seats were quite comfortable. However the cost of food at the consession stand was disgustingly over priced. For a number 2 combo which was 2 medium popcorn, 2 medium fountain drinks and 2 rather small bag of candy itcost just over $40 with tax. This is disgusting. My husband and I will not likely be back. The only reason we went was because we got a gift card for Christmas. I understand prices go up but thus is not ok.

I have 2 Admit One tickets which do not expire. I wanted to see Avatar 3D. Was told it will cost me another $22 to see the film ! HUGE RIPOFF. Gouging should be against the law ! Will never buy or see another Cineplex movie again. I am disgusted with Cineplex.

"Blank customer service. Clunky store."
I have a promotion. The promotion code doesn't work. I try to contact customer service. Customer service is a blank 3rd party website with 0 information on it. The store is clunky and slow. When it does work properly we freeze and have to restart/re-log in, re-load and find the place in the movie where we are.

I was trying it again today and it wasn't working and there is nobody to contact and ask for help.

"The recent offer of $60 in coupons if…"
The recent offer of $60 in coupons if you buy and use $50 gift card before December 31, 2022 was a slimy, money grab. Our local Cineplex serves 170,000 people and was provided 500 coupon books- first come, first serve. So those who bought the $50 gift card online were not able to get the coupon book. Don’t trust Cineplex scam offers like this. Go to Landmark cinemas.

"They refunded my movie that I screwed…"
They refunded my movie that I screwed up registering the wrong date. I reserved for sat instead of the intended Sunday. The only thing that would make it a 5 star is if they were able to fix it on the spot instead of the 24 hours rule when I arrived. I was there at 24 hours and 2 minutes (I was late cause of the lineup at the register, I actually showed up before 24 hours) mark so they had to ask guest services which takes over a day to fix. They should make it 24.5 hours to fix on the spot If there’s available room. I’ve made this mistake once in my life so it’s not something likely to happen again and we can feel the 5 star customer service. Then I had to call to get back the free ticket on top of the refund cause it didn’t appear back in. They get 4 stars because at least I got it all evened out when it was my fault for reserving the wrong date. I see a lot of 1 stars here but I felt this was a fair assessment of my experience.

"I just had the most frustrating…"
I just had the most frustrating experience at the cineplex VIP theatre at Yonge and Eglinton. I bought two VIP tickets for this evening’s showing and took pains to select a non 3D theatre. Turns out, the app is poorly designed and I mistakenly booked in a 3D theatre. Upon realizing the mistake, I approached the manager and apprised her of the situation. She (Linda) was curt and dismissive in her demeanour- which was completely uncalled for. I was not angry about the situation - annoyed with the app, yes. Annoyed that a Saturday night out was ruined, certainly, but not with any of the staff. In fact, the fellow serving us in the theatre could not have been nicer, The manager, however, was so unpleasant she made a disappointment into an ordeal. I pay a premium for VIP seats, pay a monthly premium as a member of the Cineclub, and I attend screenings frequently- not that should matter. No customer deserves to be treated with attitude when seeking a resolution to a problem.
